When it comes to knowing the right time to buy or sell, a little research can go a long way.

As well as keeping an eye on the news, you can also use our picker tools, Company research facility and Market news section to find out more about funds, companies and the market.

Some news items will have more impact than others. For example, while one profit warning might not signal a time to sell, if you get several, it might be time for a review. Bear in mind that often the market will have already taken into account any news that might affect it.

Remember that if you have invested for income yield, you should not expect spectacular capital growth.
